The Welsh National Anthem can be tricky if you’re not a native speaker but, thanks to the brilliant idea of one Cardiff man, we can now all sing along during the Rugby World Cup games.
Clearly the vast majority of us are unable to sing “Mae hen wlad fy nhadau yn annwyl i mi, Gwlad beirdd a chantorion, enwogion o fri” without a little help. However, thanks to Welshman Ben Smith, “Mae Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau” has been made easy — and the Hoff, Kim Kardashian, Tara Reid, Napoleon Dynamite and more hilarious objects and things are all involved.
Smith’s idea for the video came about when he was trying to teach his South African wife the words but to no avail.
“My wife is South African and I’m Welsh. We both wanted to learn each other’s anthems to sing during the Rugby World Cup but I think they’re probably two of the hardest anthems to learn,” Smith told Wales Online. “So I thought I would make a funny video to help her and my four-month-old daughter learn it which might also be useful to other people who want to sing it at the stadium.”
And behold the magic of this video.
Tara [Reid] will help get you singing along.
Braveheart‘s William Wallace makes a little appearance.
The Prime Minister can help you learn at least one syllable from the Welsh National Anthem.
This is like no song Ed Sheeran has ever been a part of before.
Kim Kardashian may have broken the Internet with her Paper magazine shoot but who knew her famous derrière would also help us learn something.
The Welsh like their lard…
But perhaps the greatest moment from the entire video is a nude Hoff, holding a pug. Yes, you read that correctly. For the whole video watch below:
