9 The Muppets spoilers that make it different than any other Muppets show or film
The Muppets is back on television and has an entirely new format that we think is going to be awesome! Here are some spoilers to get you psyched for the new show.
The Muppets will be a half-hour comedy that debuts on Tuesday, Sept. 22 and has ditched its straightforward variety show format to take on a more modern feel. Here's what to expect.
1. Up Late with Miss Piggy
Our beloved porcine pal has reinvented herself as a late-night talk show host — and we think it's a great move. The talk show will serve as the "play within the play" as we'll also get to see what's going on behind the scenes.
2. It's a mockumentary
Borrowing from the confessional style of Modern Family and The Office, we'll get to see the intimate thoughts of various characters with lots of fun quick-zoom reaction shots.
3. The Swedish Chef is doing craft services
The mumbling Swede will make sure healthy snacks like fruit and string cheese, along with K-cups of coffee, are all set out for the cast and crew.
4. Familiar friends work behind the scenes
Gonzo and Pepe the King Prawn are writers on the show, while Scooter serves as the booking agent.
5. Conflict with the network
American icon Sam Eagle works as the head of standards for ABC and will, no doubt, have stringent rules for the talk show regarding language and content.
6. Animal leads the band
Of course, it makes sense that the show's band features Animal, but we can only hope the music is inspired by the greatest late-night band ever, The Roots.
7. A-list celebs will guest on the show
Reese Witherspoon, Elizabeth Banks, Topher Grace, Josh Groban and the band Imagine Dragons will all make appearances.
8. A reality TV show vibe
Just like any good episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the show will focus on Miss Piggy's love life and her breakup with Kermit, who's now dating Denise, a pig from ABC marketing.
9. Fozzie Bear plays Miss Piggy's sidekick
Remember Ed McMahon? We didn't think so. He was the sidekick for Johnny Carson when he hosted The Tonight Show. Having a sidekick has sort of gone out of vogue, but we think Fozzie will be the perfect comedic foil to take some of the pressure off Miss Piggy.
