5 Seconds of Summer recently returned from their brief hiatus to continue with their Rock Out With Your Socks Out tour and, on Wednesday, guitarist Michael Clifford made a brave announcement.
Clifford opened up about his struggles with mental health while onstage during the Michigan leg of the band’s tour, telling the crowd, “I was fixing some problems with my mental health… I just saw a therapist real quick on the break we had.”

Mental health continues to be a subject that is often misunderstood or not taken seriously and, even in 2015, it is still taboo, but Clifford’s honest confession (although brief) has helped to create further awareness and empathy for all those who are suffering in silence.
Fans have reacted in a beautiful way to the announcement, taking to social media to voice their support for Clifford. The hashtag #WeLoveYouMichael began trending and below are some of the incredible things that Clifford’s fans wanted to let him know.

It takes courage to admit that you’re not okay and we applaud Michael Clifford for sharing his struggles with the world. Hopefully his words will inspire a conversation and provide some comfort to others who are in similar situations by reminding them that they are not alone.
