Britney Spears is still dealing with the consequences of her 2007 breakdown
Britney Spears, the business, is doing so well under her father's conservatorship that it will probably last forever, according to a new report.
Britney was placed under two conservatorships following her 2007 breakdown, one personal and one financial. Her father, Jamie Spears, is in charge of both.
And now both have been so successful over the past 7-1/2 years that the arrangement is probably permanent. According to TMZ, before the conservatorships were put in place, Britney was burning through cash, her finances were in tatters and her personal life was a disaster — so much so that she was in danger of losing her kids.
At the time, it was heavily implied that she had a serious mental illness, and TMZ's report seems to support this. They say that Britney's personal life has been completely turned around by her doctors, who have "stabilized her" enough that she can fully function as a parent and a performer.
You can't argue with the fact that Jamie's leadership has been wildly successful. The financial conservatorship raked in a reported $14 million last year and its assets total $45.9 million. So don't feel bad for the pop star for seemingly not having a lot of control — according to one source, she has "substantial day-to-day freedom" to make her own decisions while her team of lawyers, doctors and her dad handle the big stuff.
