Danny is getting a famous ladylove in the Season 4 premiere of The Mindy Project.
Leave it to Mindy Kaling to dream up a fantasy world where both Mindy Lahiri and Danny are dating celebrities. Entertainment Weekly revealed Freida Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire) will be playing a version of herself in the Season 4 premiere of The Mindy Project. Since the premiere is inspired by the dueling realities romance movie Sliding Doors, both Mindy and Danny will be with other people. Danny is dating Pinto, while Mindy is married to Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Matt, a reality-show producer.
It is weirdly perfect that Mindy would dream of a world where Danny hooks up with a stunning actress while she lives out all of her reality show dreams. If the episode follows the same path as Sliding Doors, Mindy is on a journey to realize she is exactly where she is supposed to be in real life, even though her reality isn’t as glamorous as her fantasy life. Watching her come to this realization in a star-studded sideways world is going to be beyond fun.
That’s not to say it won’t be weird. Danny and Mindy are a matching set at this point. Separating them, even in an alternate reality, will be painful for viewers. On the bright side, it does mean that for one episode, Mindy and Danny’s pre-couple looks of longing will return. As wonderful as they are together, their flirtatious looks and banter has been much missed.
Season 4 will quickly transition back to reality, and with reality comes even more guest stars. In addition to Pinto and Gordon-Levitt, Kaling took to Twitter to reveal former Dancing With the Stars cohost Brooke Burke-Charvet will appear as herself. Also on tap are Jay and Mark Duplass, the Deslaurier brothers and midwives who are public enemies No. 1 and 2 around Mindy’s office. Surely this is just the start of the guest-star announcements — Kaling is known for drafting her famous friends to stop by the show. At the top of our wish list is definitely a return from Adam Pally.
