Teen Mom Catelynn Lowell's pro-life post has created resentment (PHOTO)
On Sunday, Teen Mom star Catelynn Lowell took to Instagram to share a pro-life post, and her views have earned her a lot of criticism.
Lowell captioned the picture, which shows an illustration of an unborn infant, with the words, "IF WE ARE PRONOUNCED DEAD WHEN OUR HEART STOPS, WHY ARE WE NOT PRONOUNCED ALIVE WHEN OUR HEART STARTS," and a simple "Amen."
But there are many fans who are disappointed that she has shared this post, with reactions including, "Shame on you for using your platform to belittle women who choose to terminate their pregnancies within the legal bounds of abortion laws," and "She can post what she wants. But so can anyone else. And I can decide to unfollow her after being a loyal fan for 6 years."
There are also those who have criticized Lowell for her own decision to put her first daughter up for adoption.
One commenter wrote, "There's plenty of people who think giving up yout [sic] baby for adoption is worse than having an abortion. I'm surprised that you of all people are passing judgments on this topic. There might be a beating heart but there's no brain development that has any idea of what the hell is happening. A child given up for adoption has to go through all of the abandonment issues, resentment, confusion, questions, etc.. Not to mention the pain (as you know) that the birth parents and adoptive parents go through...."
Another fan shared similar sentiments, saying, "While it's great that you were able to give up your first born [sic] for adoption I don't like you shoving anti-abortion propaganda on other people. Especially since the decision is never an easy choice to make...."
One of the main reasons why fans appear to be upset with Lowell's opinion is that she is saying it on a public platform, and there are a lot of impressionable young teens who look up to her. Thus fans feel she should be unbiased in her views, something that one fan shared in a comment on the MTV star's post.
They wrote, "I hope when talking about pregnancy, you will present ALL options. You can choose to be anti-abortion yourself but it's key to be respectful, non-judgemental, and informative when counselling others about reproductive options. That's the only way a woman will make their right choice. @catelynnmtv [sic]."
