The Mindy Project casts Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the most unbelievable role

The Mindy Project is kicking Season 4 off with a big twist: Mindy is hitched, but not to Danny.

The world is going topsy-turvy in The Mindy Project Season 4 premiere. BuzzFeed exclusively revealed Joseph Gordon-Levitt is on hand to guest star as Mindy Lahiri’s husband. Calm yourselves, Mindy/Danny fans, this isn’t real life. Now that The Mindy Project is on Hulu, it looks like Mindy Kaling is getting experimental. The season premiere will be an homage to the 1998 romance classic Sliding Doors that shows Mindy what life would have been like had she chosen Gordon-Levitt’s character instead of Danny.

The answer: Her life would have been crazy-posh and very Mindy-esque, if the tease for Gordon-Levitt’s character is any indication. The Inception star will be playing Matt, a reality show producer at Bravo. Is it any wonder the celebrity-obsessed Mindy swooned? As awesome as the premise is, my only hope is that it has a happier ending than the movie that inspired it. Gwyneth Paltrow’s Sliding Doors fate is bittersweet in both directions. As long as Mindy ends up with Danny in the end, everything will be fine.

Gordon-Levitt is the latest in a long line of high-profile guest stars on The Mindy Project. He joins James Franco, Seth Rogen, Lee Pace and Timothy Olyphant as just a few of Mindy’s beaus. His presence is a clear sign that Kaling’s famous friends are still showing up in full force now that The Mindy Project has made the jump to Hulu. That’s good news for everyone, because half the fun is seeing which star Kaling will draft next.
