Johnny Depp reprises his role as Jack Sparrow for the best cause ever
Jack Sparrow Johnny Depp just gave these kids the surprise of a lifetime.
The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, in his famous, full Jack Sparrow getup, made headlines in Australia when he stopped by the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital, completely unannounced, to visit sick kids who were staying there.
Depp, who is filming his latest Pirates installment near the hospital, is seen in photos tweeted by a local newspaper hugging, laughing and taking selfies with the kids.
One of the boys who got to meet the actor, 7-year-old Max Bennet, was eating with his mom, Rachel, when Depp's helicopter arrived at the hospital, ABC.net reports.
"He was going from room to room seeing all the kids who couldn't get out of bed," Rachel told the outlet. "We waited out of the front of one of the rooms, and he came up to us and had a really good chat to Max."
She continued, "It was really beautiful. Everyone kept on trying to move him on, but he kept on coming back" to be with the kids.
This isn't the first time the famously gruff actor has done something of the sort — it's clear he has a soft spot for kids. In addition to hospitals, he's dropped in on his youngest fans at schools, and he even told E! News in 2013 that he always keeps his Jack Sparrow costume handy because the character is so recognizable and loved by kids of all ages.
"Sometimes you go to kiddie hospitals and things like that," he said at the time. "I'll just sneak in and go and surprise a bunch of kiddies through the different wards… it basically turns into a two, three-hour improvisation and it's really fun. So I travel with Captain Jack."
