Charlize Theron, Sean Penn end engagement: Who dumped who?
Hollywood power couple Charlize Theron and Sean Penn have reportedly called it quits. What happened? A recent interview might give us a clue.
The unlikely pair raised eyebrows when they began their May-December romance, but both Oscar winners seemed just as committed to each other as they are to their work. However, it might just be their careers that was their undoing at the end.
A source told Us Weekly that Theron broke things off with Penn following their recent trip to the Cannes Film Festival, and an interview she gave to Elle UK gives us a huge clue as to what happened: Working together on The Last Face pretty much killed their romance.
"Putting aside that he's my partner, he's the love of my life; for the first time, I felt that my work was really bleeding into my life and that made it hard," Theron told the mag.
"There were moments where I was incredibly unfair to him," she admitted. "And moments where I felt like... he was incredibly unfair to me. But it makes you realize that no matter how complicated it gets, the priority is the relationship."
Penn was previously wed to Madonna, then to House of Cards actress Robin Wright, and their on-again, off-again marriage finally fell apart amid rumors that the actor had a predilection for Russian prostitutes.
Reps for Theron and Penn have not commented on the split.
