Teen Mom 3 star debuts rapping skills to spread awareness for diabetes (VIDEO)
Former Teen Mom star Mackenzie Douthit has "The Sweetest Treat" to help educate children who suffer from diabetes.
The mom of two just debuted her rapping skills with a new music video with an amazing message. The song encourages kids to take steps to have a healthy life by eating fruits and vegetables.
"Mackenzie here. And Imma tell you a little tale about why your sweets aren't always a treat," she begins in the song. "When you got type 2, got to watch your diet, but you gotta eat to keep your tummy quiet. If your body don't produce enough insulin, that's the stuff that you need to get your energy fixins."
Doughit herself suffers from diabetes. She has type 1 and has openly talked about it in the past, especially with regard to her pregnancies.
"They say that if you are a type 1 diabetic, then your body needs two years of perfect blood sugar to prepare for a baby," Douthit said in a 2012 interview with Starcasm. "Well... I didn't plan on getting pregnant, so I didn't get those two years to prepare. As a matter of fact I used to never take care of myself until I got pregnant. Then I realized I had to start taking care of myself or I could lose my baby. That would be so selfish of me."
Now she's taking the message to kids.
"I wanted to make a fun song about diabetes that kids could relate to and I'm super excited to share it with you. I hope everyone enjoys it," Douthit said in a statement.
"The Sweetest Treat" is available on iTunes, but you can check out the music video now below.
