Pretty Little Liars: A deeper look at Charles and his dollhouse motives

So far, Pretty Little Liars Season 6 has been a lot more about the Liars and their road to recovery and a lot less about Charles.

And while the change of focus has been refreshing, the nagging about Charles' motives still lingers in the back of our minds unforgettably.

Sasha Pieterse, who plays Alison DiLaurentis, confirmed that Charles is somehow related to the DiLaurentis family when we interviewed her before the start of Season 6. But that can't be his only connection to Rosewood. Otherwise, why torment Aria (Lucy Hale), Spencer (Troian Bellisario), Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Emily (Shay Mitchell) as well?

If he's related to Alison, then he also has a connection to Spencer. Spencer and Jason are half-siblings since Spencer's dad had an affair with Jason's mom back in the day.

But that doesn't explain why he's after Aria and Hanna.

My theory is that it all comes back to the night Alison went missing. Charles could have been a patient at Radley and that could have been the night he escaped, meaning he was there when everything went down and was, ultimately, somehow responsible for the catalyst that caused that series of events.

My guess is he went after Sara Harvey on accident, thinking she was Alison. So instead of getting Alison that night, he ended up with Sara in his dollhouse and made do with her as his Alison until he got his hands on Mona.

I think he wants to recreate the life he never had, with family and friends surrounding him, instead of the clear solitude he exists in now.

But why the DiLaurentises are in the dark about his existence is one of the key mysteries on the show.

I think this is where the Twin Theory comes into play and why Jessica DiLaurentis had to die to keep the mystery alive. It would make sense that Charles was Jason's twin, and that's why his birth got covered up. Maybe Jessica was finally going to come clean about Charles, and he didn't like the idea of being exposed before his master plan was complete?

Of course, there are still so many loose ends on the show, including that precarious night when Alison was thought to be killed/went missing.

Sara must be closely connected to those loose ends, and it has me seriously suspicious of her motives. Especially with that last scene in tonight's episode.

I don't think she's Big A, but I do think she has a deeper connection to Charles than we know yet. Whether it be a Bethany Young, Radley Sanitarium or Twin Theory explanation, only time will tell. (Unless the show plans to leave us hanging indefinitely.)

What if she and Charles are lovers?

Now there's a seriously creepy idea.

But if Pieterse was right in our phone interview, Charles doesn't really have much time for anything in his head except for his crazy obsession with the girls. The actress explained that completing his dollhouse with the real Alison is his "passion and his dream."

And while there may be a lot of curveballs like Sara Harvey's true intentions and what really happened in the dollhouse uncovered in Season 6, we're banking on the fact that Charles isn't just someone we've seen in the show before but someone we're close to and invested in.

"This is someone that could be a lot closer than anyone knew," Pieterse revealed.

We're totally counting on it.

What do you think Charles' true motives are for tormenting the Liars?
