Just when you thought TV couldn’t up the creativity game anymore, ABC Family’s new show Becoming Us launches a campaign for the LGBT community that could change everything.
The network is offering a nine-and-a-half-minute sneak peek of the new series to every person who makes a Twitter pledge to support the LGBT community.
The new campaign will run until June 1 and couldn’t be any easier to complete since ABC already has a pre-written tweet for everyone to send out. Once the tweet is shared, users will receive a reply containing the link for the preview.
The campaign is so revolutionary because it’s the first time Twitter has been used as a platform for this kind of LGBT community pledge, according to Variety.
Even more exciting, it furthers the impact television can have on our lives by making it interactive. ABC Family is giving users an easy, accessible and direct avenue to make a difference.

Becoming Us has partnered with Twitter and PFLAG National, an LGBT advocacy group, for the campaign.
The new ABC Family unscripted drama will tell the story of a teenage boy, Ben, who is dealing with his father’s decision to transition to a woman. According to the show’s synopsis, “The series will follow Ben, his family and his friends as they support one another through this unexpected journey and navigate their new world with Charlie now living as Carly. The show is a generational story of a loving family and circle of friends supporting one another through this unfamiliar situation.”

The transgender-themed show joins others of its kind that have cropped up in recent years, all of which are continuing to shed light on the community, including Amazon’s Transparent and TLC’s All That Jazz.
