Adam Levine was shaking hands and kissing babies outside Jimmy Kimmel Live! when he got an unexpected and quite frankly terrifying "greeting" from someone in the crowd.

The Maroon 5 frontman was blasted in the face with a powdered sugar bomb. What ended up being just a prank could have been much worse.

While it might be funny, albeit messy, to "antique" your friends while they are sleeping or when they are least expecting it, it is not funny when it is in public and you have no idea who is throwing something at you or what the substance is. It could have been anything! We are, of course, thankful it ended up being nothing nefarious.

Levine does not look happy about the encounter, for obvious reasons. He does turn back toward the perpetrator momentarily but is quickly ushered away by security, taking off his jacket and going into the studio gates.

You can hear the crowd is none too happy with the "prankster," and he was immediately taken into custody by security.

We don't know currently if he was advocating for or against something, or if he was representing a particular group. Or if he was just someone with a really twisted sense of humor who thought it would be funny to assault a celebrity.

Good news? Levine seemed to (literally) brush it off and get back on the stage in the same clothes!
