Queen Latifah's comments about Bill Cosby's alleged sexual assaults are bothersome
We love Queen Latifah: she's smart, she's talented and she's very open-minded when it comes to many social issues, as is evident by her comments on gay marriage and equality during a recent interview with Uptown magazine. However, it was her comments about Bill Cosby and his alleged sexual assaults that really bothered us.
During her interview with the magazine, the Last Holiday actress shared her thoughts on the allegations Cosby is facing, saying, "It's unfortunate because he has done so much in terms of entertainment, culture and black folks. But right is right and wrong is wrong. All these women, all these stories, it's just — what a big stain on such an amazing career."
Now, we could be misinterpreting this comment, but it sounds to us like Latifah has been pretty insensitive (at least with her choice of words) toward the women who have come forward claiming that Cosby sexually assaulted them. She appears to have referred to them and their claims as merely a "stain" on his career, not taking into account the turmoil that they have allegedly suffered.
Before Latifah's comments about the claims that the Cosby Show star is facing, she also admitted to having missed a big opportunity, having never gotten a chance to interview him — her interview was canceled, as was her daytime talk show, The Queen Latifah Show.
"I would've absolutely had to ask him about [the rape allegations] because it just would've been too big an elephant in the room," she explained — and it would have been really interesting to hear Latifah's line of questioning.
