Neo Yakuac and Caroline Austin leave Australia's Next Top Model
Neo and Caroline eliminated from Australia's Next Top Model. Judges say Neo Yakuac didn't put forth enough effort and called diva Caroline Austin too bratty.
NOT GOOD ENOUGH
They told one she resembled a young Naomi Campbell. They told another she had exquisite natural beauty. Yet neither made the cut.
The elimination of Melbourne native Caroline Austin, 19, and Neo Yakuac, 18, originally from Sudan, surprised fans of Australia's Next Top Model. Austin's departure was somewhat expected, as the dark-haired teen with light eyes was told she was relying on her looks too much and not enough on actual modelling ability. Viewers were more surprised by Neo's removal, with some fashion insiders even championing the tall, bald beauty. The Top Model judges said a lack of effort is what prompted them to ask Neo to leave. Last week, the show removed Alissandra Moone, who caused a stir when stylist Alex Perry insinuated she was fat, and Annaliese McCann.
FROM DEATH TO MCDONALDS
Similar to former X Factor fan favourite and Iraq war veteran Emmanuel Kelly, Neo's background is as gripping as her talent. She fled Sudan with her family as a child and watched her brother get shot and killed before her eyes. She lived as a refugee in Egypt before coming to Brisbane at age 9. Before entering the Top Model competition, Neo worked at McDonalds.
Despite her striking appearance, Austin was gradually emerging as a diva-like model, having complained about her outfits and even calling her stylist a bitch. Judges worried she was too arrogant for her own good.
