Surprise!
That’s what surfer Bethany Hamilton and her husband Adam Dirks had for their fans when they posted a video announcing they are expecting their first child together!
Hamilton and Dirks, a youth minister, have been married for two years, and on Monday, the couple announced, “So, we have a little surprise for you, Baby on board!”
Hamilton says she is about 22 weeks along and has been a surfer the entire time she’s been expecting, and that she will continue to surf as long as she can.
“Once the belly is pretty big maybe [I’ll] just, like mellow it out and spend more time swimming and just enjoying the ocean and doing other activities,” she said.
Dirks also let the cat out of the bag on the gender and let everyone know the couple is expecting a little baby boy in early June, but we will have to wait until then to find out what name they have chosen.
Hamilton lost her left arm to a shark back in 2003 near her home on the island of Kauai in Hawaii, but she was able to triumph over the accident and continue to compete as an elite surfer. And who could forget the inspiring movie, Soul Surfer, which told her story.
