Michael Sam is getting hitched! And in these newly shared photos, his choice of proposal locale — and the couple’s obvious love for each other — will take your breath away.
Sam, the NFL’s first openly gay draft pick, was first taken by the St. Louis Rams before being cut at training camp, then picked up by the Cowboys before being let go in training camp — but at least one guy wants to hang on to him for a long time to come.
The defensive end proposed to his college sweetheart Vito Cammisano at the Vatican, which is a nice little dig at an establishment that still forbids gay marriage.
The rumors of an engagement started a little over a week ago when one of Cammisano’s friends posted her excited congratulations to the couple on Instagram, and Sam “liked” it — although neither lovebird publicly commented until today.
This was the gorgeous view the couple shared while the question was being popped: the timeless visage of Vatican City, a perfect place to celebrate what we hope will be a timeless love.
And Cammisano posted his own shot, showing off his blingy engagement ring.
Huge congrats to the happy couple!
