The Fosters actor Jake Austin escaped a serious criminal charge this week, and you won’t believe the reason behind the judge’s decision.
Austin was charged with crashing into three parked cars back in November 2013 and fleeing the scene in an Uber — but not before witnesses saw him hastily toss a bottle of Cîroc vodka out of his own vehicle. He was formally charged seven months later.
But incredibly, he got off the hook without so much as a slap on the wrist. How did he manage that? Incredible legal logic.
Basically, his lawyer convinced the judge that despite leaving the scene of an accident, Austin did in fact notify police of the crash within a “reasonable time,” according to TMZ.
This is either an amazing piece of luck or shrewd maneuvering on the actor’s part, because it also got him out of a DUI. Since he never saw the cops face-to-face, they could not test his blood alcohol level, and without that there’s no proof he was drunk, witnesses or no witnesses.
Don’t try this at home, kids.
Just 20 years old, Austin has already enjoyed a long Hollywood career, including roles as the voice of Diego in Dora the Explorer, the brother of Selena Gomez’s character in Wizards of Waverly Place, and now as Jesus Foster in the Jennifer Lopez-produced The Fosters.
