André 3000 has really stepped up his acting game in the Jimi Hendrix biopic All is by My Side, managing to look and sound just like the legendary guitarist.

We did not expect to be this impressed. André Benjamin — or André 3000 — is showing off some serious acting chops as Jimi Hendrix in the new biopic Jimi: All is by My Side. No, really, he looks and sounds amazing.

The film, directed by John Ridley, chronicles the legendary guitarist’s earlier career, before the release of his debut record “Are You Experienced.” The biopic will not feature any of Hendrix’s actual music because the filmmakers’ request was denied by the musician’s estate. While it sounds redundant to make a biopic about Hendrix without his music, you just have to put some faith in this… It looks great. Just check out the trailer:

Come on, Benjamin is perfect. We think the actor was able to truly embody Hendrix even down to his mannerisms. We’re pretty excited about this. Despite not featuring any of the musician’s iconic music, the film can still reinvent Hendrix for a younger audience and focus on the guitarist as an individual. That’s still pretty neat, no?
