5 Highest-grossing concert tours of all time
Taylor Swift has grabbed the top spot for highest-grossing North American tour in 2013. So naturally we must review the best tours of all time, right?
The business sure treats her nice! Per Rolling Stone, Taylor Swift has heroically grossed more than $110 million for the North American branch of The Red Tour, topping the 2013 list. Not too shabby for a 24-year-old!
The young singer even managed to surpass music industry veteran Bon Jovi, who amassed $107 million with their Because We Can: The Tour. Beyoncé placed third on the list with $76 million, Jay Z and Justin Timberlake came in fourth with $69 million and Fleetwood Mac grabbed the fifth spot with $67 million.
We can definitely see why musicians like to go on tour: that is a whole lotta dough! But have you ever wondered what are the highest-earning tours of all time? Even if you haven’t, we’ll tell you anyway!
5. Madonna, Sticky & Sweet Tour (2008-2009)
Her album Hard Candy was brand new at the time, and Madonna was on fire! The Sticky & Sweet Tour grossed $407 million worldwide, which is more than $100 million more than her recent MDNA tour reeled in.
4. AC/DC, Black Ice World Tour (2008-2010)
Black Ice was AC/DC's most recent album and was rightfully supported by an amazing tour. Who wouldn’t pay big bucks to see Angus Young rock those shorts in his 50s? The tour ended up grossing $441 million.
3. Roger Waters, The Wall (2010-2013)
This guy is a legend! Roger Waters is, of course, famous as the co-founder of Pink Floyd and then went on to release some great solo albums. His The Wall tour grossed a massive $458 million. Cha-ching!
2. The Rolling Stones, A Bigger Bang Tour (2005-2007)
Is it really a surprise that The Rolling Stones made it on the list? To be frank, the band appears three times in the top ten most-grossing tours of all time. Three times! That’s how incredible they are. Their A Bigger Bang tour amassed $558 million. Just allow that to sink in. Wow.
1. U2, 360° Tour (2009-2011)
OK, hold on to your hats, folks! U2’s last tour grossed a whopping, unbeatable, unbelievable $736 million worldwide! We love Bono and the gang so much that we’d all collectively give them almost a billion dollars for one tour. How crazy is that? They even beat The Rolling Stones.
