Gwen Stefani’s OPI nail polish line: Good idea, bad idea?
We don’t get this one. Gwen Stefani is teaming up with OPI to create her very own nail polish line, with shades inspired by the singer and her music.
We would follow Gwen Stefani into battle if we had to; that’s how much confidence we have in her fashion knowledge. But we’re not quite sure about this venture.
Per People magazine, the No Doubt frontwoman is launching her very own nail polish collection with OPI. Yes, a nail polish collection.
“With her expertise as a singer, songwriter and designer, who better to collaborate with than Gwen Stefani?” the OPI Executive VP and Artistic Director Suzi Weiss-Fischmann stated. “Known for her trademark red lips, bold eye makeup and nail art, Gwen uses beauty to accessorize her style.”
The collection is going to have seven shades inspired by the singer, including “Over & Over A-Gwen” — an homage to the famous red lipstick Stefani wears. Other shades also have fun names like “In True Stefani Fashion,” a glittery number, and “Push and Shove,” which is a chrome shade. Are you enticed yet?
“OPI wanted to create a collection as dramatic, diverse and glamorous as its namesake,” Weiss-Fischmann continued. “With crème and glitter hues, new satin matte texture, a mirrored chrome and Swarovski elements, Gwen Stefani by OPI presents the latest in pigments and finishes, while combining elements of haute couture and street fashion.”
We are wondering if making a Gwen Stefani nail polish line is even worth it. How many shades of red can there possibly be? How will Stefani’s nail polish stand out against the other red shades already in the OPI repertoire? Or the chrome shades? Or the glittery ones? While we appreciate the singer’s artistic contribution to the fashion world, concocting colours for OPI seems redundant.
We’re sure it will still rake in loads of money though. . . What do you think of Stefani’s latest endeavour?
