This shall combine the passions of many – football and Bruno Mars.
The 27-year-old singer announced on Sunday that he will be performing at the halftime show of the Super Bowl XLVIII! How exciting is that?
After a week of rampant rumours concerning possible halftime acts, the NFL officially announced Mars as their selection yesterday, followed by the singer’s confirmation via Facebook post and further solidification with a celebratory tweet.

“WE’RE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!!!!! #PepsiSBHalftime,” the singer wrote.
You guys, this is a big deal! Mars follows Beyoncé’s memorable performance, which featured a Destiny’s Child reunion. That’s a tough act to follow! Other amazing artists to score the Super Bowl halftime gig in the past include Madonna, The Who, the Black Eyed Peas, Prince, Paul McCartney, Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones. . . You know, just a handful of the best musicians of all time! No pressure though, Bruno.
Oh, also Janet Jackson. Does anyone recall that performance perchance? In all honesty, Mars will be amazing. He brings a great energy to the stage! Just throw in some funk, some dance moves and he will have the entire stadium dancing in no time.

Just to remind everyone of the extent of the show’s viewership: last year a whopping 110.5 million people tuned in to watch Beyoncé’s performance. The Super Bowl XLVIII will take place on Feb. 2, 2014 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Are you excited to see Mars at the halftime show? Do you think he was a good choice?
