We don’t know whether we should laugh or cry. Michael Bay has cast Mark Wahlberg as the new lead of the Transformers franchise. That’s right — Marky Mark.
Marky Mark in da hizzouse! Saving franchises one at a time…
Director Michael Bay was so impressed with Mark Wahlberg while working on the film Pain & Gain that he has decided to cast him in Transformers 4!
Drink it all in. In 2014, you will have the magical opportunity to see this 41-year-old actor running around fighting robots and pretending to be 20 years younger. How fun!
“Mark is awesome. We had a blast working on Pain & Gain, and I’m so fired up to be back working with him. An actor of his calibre is the perfect guy to reinvigorate the franchise and carry on the Transformers‘ legacy,” Bay said.
Mark Wahlberg usually plays Mark Wahlberg in costume, so “reinvigorate” is a strong term. You’ll end up seeing more mothers in the queue for the film, though; who doesn’t want to lay eyes on those washboard abs?
Funnily enough, Bay denied an internet rumour that Wahlberg will be joining the franchise, so what happened? Mr. Director here smelled a good idea, that’s what.
“I had such a great time working with Mark on Pain & Gain, and he gave such a great performance, well, let’s say that very internet chatter gave me some ideas. We are at the inception of our story process right now on T4. Let’s say some ideas are gaining traction with me and my writer, so I’m here to say, ‘thanks, internet chatter.'”
You’re welcome. We wonder whether the leading lady will be older too, to match Marky Mark… Naw, it’s Hollywood. She’ll obviously be at the most 25.
Opinions? Who should star opposite Mark Wahlberg?
