Jenna Talackova wants gender rules to be scrapped

It hasn’t been easy for her. Jenna Talackova was disqualified from Miss Universe and then later reinstated. Now she wants the regulations updated so no other transgender woman will have to face discrimination.

This has been one long roller coaster ride, no? First, Jenna Talackova was given the boot from Donald Trump’s Miss Universe Canada for being a transgender female. Then Talackova was told she may be given a chance to compete if she will comply with a lengthy list of rules and regulations.

Now Talackova, along with her attorney, Gloria Allred, is hoping the whole gender requirement can be tossed out the window altogether.

At a conference yesterday, Allred stated that her client never questioned Trump’s manhood or asked for any proof, so why should she be treated differently? And Mr. Trump — in a moment of sheer class — responded to that statement through TMZ: “I think Gloria Allred would be very impressed.” Referring to his man parts, obviously… He also stated that he “couldn’t care less” if Talackova competed or not. What a sweet man, that one.

But the 23-year-old Talackova, who underwent gender surgery at 19, is fighting for a greater cause: equality and justice.

“I am a woman,” she said at the conference. “I was devastated, and I felt that excluding me for the reason that they gave was unjust. I have never asked for any special consideration. I only wanted to compete.

“I wish Mr. Trump would just say, in plain words, whether or not I will be allowed to compete, and if I win, whether I will be allowed to represent Canada in the Miss Universe competition. I also want Mr. Trump to clearly state that this rule will be eliminated, because I do not want any other woman to suffer the discrimination that I have to endure.”

Preach it, girl! Dancing around the issue is not a solution. The Miss Universe pageant should either allow Talackova to compete or not; forcing her to meet rules and regulations of gender requirements in Canada and in all the other pageants is redundant and too ambiguous.

Food for thought. Opinions?
