Jim Carrey’s daughter auditions for American Idol

Last night American Idol got quite a surprise when comedian Jim Carrey’s daughter Jane walked on stage to perform for the judges.

Jane Carrey

Jane Carrey, a 24-year-old mother and Los Angeles-based waitress, appeared like any other hopeful contestant on American Idol: big smile, a little frayed with nerves, but still glowing with confidence.

Her family was waiting anxiously outside the audition room while her father, comedian Jim Carrey, was expecting that unsettling phone call announcing the judges’ decision.

The judges: Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson, were a little surprised to see the daughter of the Canadian funny man audition for the show.

“Does Father know you’re here?” Jackson asked with a chuckle.

“Who’s Father?” Lopez asked. She has worked with Jim on In Living Color as a Fly Girl.

“My father’s Jim Carrey,” Jane replied.

“Oh, I worked with Jim,” Lopez said. “I remember you when you were little. Do you remember me? I was one of the Fly Girls…You were so little, you were a baby, oh my God.”

Jane then launched into her audition song, “Something to Talk About,” made popular in the ’90s by Bonnie Raitt. But what did the judges think?

They loved her! Tyler and Lopez gave some performing tips and all three handed her the golden ticket to Hollywood.

“It’s difficult growing up in a shadow, trying to find your way,” Jane stated in the pre-audition tape, but her audition certainly proved she can stand on her own.

Outside the audition room, Jane called her father Jim Carrey to share the good news.

“I can’t wait for the world to understand what she has inside her,” he said over speakerphone. “It’s going to be an exciting year.”
