January 2015: 5 Must-see movies you won’t want to miss

Two exciting animated films, Paddington and Strange Magic, are out this month and watching them with your family seems like a great way to start the year. Johnny Depp also stars in his first straight-up comedy in years.

1. Taken 3
Liam Neeson is back as Bryan Mills, an ex-government operative who’s great at finding family members but not so good at holding on to them. Forest Whitaker, Famke Janssen and Maggie Grace also star.

Taken 3 kidnaps audiences on Jan. 9.

2. Blackhat
The official world’s sexiest man, Chris Hemsworth, plays Hathaway, a “blackhat” computer hacker currently serving prison time. The U.S. government decides to employ this cyber criminal in a sting operation that takes him all the way to Hong Kong. This dark thriller also stars Viola Davis.

3. Paddington
Everyone’s favorite hat-wearing bear with “a worrying marmalade habit” finally moves from books to the cinema. Nicole Kidman plays Millicent, a woman determined to bring a terrible fate to this beloved furry bear. Ben Whishaw (Q from Skyfall) lends his voice to Paddington.

Paddington snuggles with the box office Jan. 16.

4. Mortdecai
Charles Mortdecai (Johnny Depp), is a kooky, hipster art dealer who’s searching for a lost masterpiece that may hold clues to the location of a long-forgotten Nazi fortune. This comedy also stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Olivia Munn.

Mortdecai grooms his mustache Jan. 23.

5. Strange Magic
The world of the magical and the world of the mysterious have always remained separated — until now. From the mind of George Lucas, this musical animated film features the voices of Evan Rachel Wood, Maya Rudolph and Kristin Chenoweth.
