Benedict Cumberbatch announces he's engaged in the sweetest way possible
Benedict Cumberbatch is engaged to theater director Sophie Hunter, but the way it was announced is the best part of the news.
So, how did fans find out that the Star Trek Into Darkness actor had popped the question? By reading an ad in the Forthcoming Marriages section of The Times newspaper, that's how!
The notice reads, "Mr BT. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter: The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katherine Hunter of Edinburgh, and Charles Hunter of London." And yes, those are his parents' real names!
According to the Daily Mail, Cumberbatch kept to tradition, and before he popped the question he flew to Edinburgh, Scotland, to ask Hunter's mother's permission for her daughter's hand in marriage. Aww!
The publication also reports that a spokesperson for the actor confirmed his big news, although currently there are no further details about the engagement or when the wedding will take place.
The pair have remained notoriously private about their relationship and are seldom seen together in public. But according to the Daily Mail, the Sherlock star previously described his perfect lady, saying, "A woman who knows that she doesn't have to get all decked out to look good is sexy."
"A woman who can make you feel smart with her conversation skills is also sexy. I believe the sense of humour (sic) is important. I also think someone who is good at working with others is sexy."
"It's like playing a tennis doubles match. You need to be able to work well together if you are to stay as partners for a long time."
We're thrilled (and slightly heartbroken) that Cumberbatch has found that woman — the woman who makes him so happy.
Congratulations to the happy couple on the news of their engagement!
