Amy Poehler grills George R.R. Martin with GoT trivia (VIDEO)
Even George R.R. Martin has trouble keeping his Game of Thrones characters straight.
The author appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday along with actress and comedian Amy Poehler, who also just released a book. Little did Martin know, Poehler and Meyers planned a tricky test for Martin.
Poehler read quotes from Martin's Game of Thrones books and asked the author to name the character that said the line. Turns out, it ain't so easy to remember everything after you've written a few thousand pages, as Martin discovers.
Poehler says she going to start with an easy one, "The night is dark and full of terrors."
Martin correctly guesses Melisandre.
The next, this time read by Poehler with a proper British accent, "When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die."
Answer: Cersei of House Lannister, which Martin also gets correct.
From there, things get strange as Poehler comes up with some really clever, albeit probably not exactly accurate answers that even Martin himself didn't come up with.
More impressive than Martin's answers is Amy Poehler's ability to keep a straight face while reading her creative answers.
Not that we blame the author or anyone else who doesn't know these quotes. There are so many characters so carefully woven into an intricate story. Though Martin does it amazingly well.
Don't worry, you don't have to be as knowledgeable as Martin to keep up with the characters. There's an app for that. (No, seriously.)
Another side note — don't miss out on noticing Martin's adorable laugh as Poehler jokes along with the questions.
