Gotham: Morena Baccarin needs to be Gordon’s temporary rebound

Fox announced today that Morena Baccarin is joining the Gotham cast and we couldn’t be more excited. Yes, we know how everything plays out in the end. But, until Bruce Wayne is Batman, there’s no reason we can’t have fun with the story lines.

What to expect from Gotham‘s full season order

Entertainment Weekly released the news earlier today: Homeland‘s Baccarin is on board to join Gotham as the original comic character Dr. Leslie Thompkins. They described her character as a “gifted and dedicated physician who was a friend of Thomas and Martha Wayne.” According to EW, she’ll soon find herself working in the newly opened Arkham Asylum Home for the Criminally Insane.

What’s most interesting to us, though, is her possible connection to Detective Gordon (Ben McKenzie). As Gordon probes Arkham for the guilty or the willing squealers, the two will find themselves working together. However, the circumstances may not always play out in Thompkin’s favor. The character description warns that “her coolness under pressure will serve her well as she finds herself drawn closer to James Gordon and into more and more dangerous waters.”

Is Gotham circling around a fling and possibly offering us Gordon’s one and only flaw? Of course, we know that Gordon will eventually return to Barbara. In the comics, the gorgeous blonde is his wife. However, we’re currently in a pre-comic time right now, so anything is possible. Since Gordon recently found out Barbara failed to mention her lesbian phase and she’s currently have a hard time trusting him, what’s to say Gordon doesn’t stray for a while? They could potentially and officially part ways for a time. However, because Gordon is such an upstanding citizen, we think it’d be much more interesting to see him fumble in his fidelity and reveal at least one flaw about himself. We know it won’t last, but we wouldn’t mind a touch of personal and romantic drama for a while, just to see a different (read: naked) side of Gordon.

Are we reading more into this announcement than is actually there, or do you think we could be on to something? Would you want to see Gordon stray from Babs?
