Shailene Woodley’s Hollywood star is on the rise, but so is her age, and she’s no longer going to be seen in adolescent roles. But that’s OK because her parents are cool with watching her adult-themed films.
The actress revealed that when she was filming White Bird in a Blizzard, there was an intimate scene with much-older actor Thomas Jane, but she didn’t feel one bit awkward about it — and neither did her parents.
“My parents saw the film. I thought it might be awkward, but they both loved it,” Woodley said, according to the New York Post’s Page Six. Most parents would shudder at the thought, so we’re glad that Woodley’s parents are so supportive.
As for Woodley, she didn’t feel awkward about filming the scene because… well, she has great boobs!
“It’s crazy. And sort of wrong. But I felt great doing it. I was not fully robed. And our bodies had no makeup. Who needs makeup? I’m only 22. My boobs are great. They don’t need any help,” she confessed.
We’re glad that Woodley is sending out such a strong body-image message to other women! And speaking of other women, Woodley is a firm believer that the females of the species should stick together and support one another (we agree).
“Women should be there for other women. It’s such cruelty and competition out there. Women must help other women. Not say those ugly things about the others just out of their insecurity. I don’t believe in that,” she said.
White Bird in a Blizzard, based on Laura Kasischke’s novel, has a lot of scenes where Woodley is topless. She doesn’t think that that is anything to be ashamed of.
“Maybe I’m more European at heart than American, but sexuality in America is considered so taboo and it’s so not talked about and yet it’s so relevant in our lives,” Woodley told the New York Daily News. “I don’t understand it: Little kids know more about guns than they do about their own bodies.”
She makes a very good point: Is it Hollywood that has so drastically altered our body perception?
