Missy Elliott showed off her slim and sexy self over the weekend, which had some people gawking at her dramatic transformation and claiming the rapper is now unrecognizable. But this toned and fabulous new Missy isn’t really new. She’s been working on her heath and fitness for a while now.
Sure, it’s been a few months since we’ve seen the hitmaker publicly. But when she showed off her figure at the Alexander Wang H&M launch on Tuesday in New York City, it wasn’t just the clothes people focused on. Elliott made a splash with her fabulous and feminine appearance.
Of course, it’s going to take a while for us to get used to Elliott’s new look. She’s lost a reported 70 pounds and is now sporting some long, straight locks, as opposed to her past short, spiky do (which you can see in the image above, from 2010).
Elliott is obviously pleased with her condition and looks, as she should be after rocking the stage at the event. She was tweeting and sharing photos of herself and friends all night, including this one, which shows a different Elliott than most people are used to. Even the baggy sweater can’t hide the fact that she looks thin and happy.

Still, as we reported back in June 2011, Elliott was diagnosed with Graves’ disease — an autoimmune disorder that affects the thyroid — in 2008 and has been focusing on her health ever since.
According to an article from People back in 2011, Elliott said, “I’m 30 pounds lighter because I’ve been exercising. My thyroid is functioning, so I haven’t had to take medication in about nine months.”
Radiation treatments were responsible for an improvement in Elliott’s condition as well, also according to the outlet.
I do insanity workout to @shauntfitness videos. Sweets/bread/ fried foods is my weakness it's not easy but health comes 1st:)

Elliott shared a photo of her slimmed-down self on Twitter on May 3, proving that while her hair is different, she’s been embracing a smaller frame for a while.

The most important thing is, of course, that Elliott is feeling good, and that’s obviously the case. Keep it up, lady!
