Jude Law's Hollywood image shows huge, sexist double standard
Jude Law is about to become a dad... again.
Law will be welcoming his fifth child soon with his ex-girlfriend, according to People magazine. "I can confirm that Jude Law and Catherine Harding are expecting a child together in the spring," Law's rep said in a statement. "Whilst they are no longer in a relationship, they are both wholeheartedly committed to raising their child. They consider this a private matter and other than this confirmation, no statement will be made. I ask that you respect the privacy of all parties involved and their families."
The actor already has four children: three with his ex-wife Sadie Frost, and another daughter that was the result of a reportedly extremely brief fling with model Samantha Burke in 2008.
While we are happy for him, we really are, we can't but help but wonder why Law hasn't developed a reputation as a man-whore. Sure, there was some hate thrown his way during the time when he was caught cheating on long-time girlfriend Sienna Miller with the kids' nanny, but now the public has somehow blacked out all of Law's past indiscretions and he remains to be known for his body of work.
What if Law was a woman with who was pregnant with her fifth child with several different men fathering the children? Would he even have a career in Hollywood?
Law is able to cheat, have flings and multiple children with several different women without suffering any effects to his professional life, whereas talented female celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Upton have been slut-shamed and made to worry about their careers because of their private photos being hacked. Kevin Costner also has seven children with three different mothers, but that seems to fly under the radar as well.
That's not to say we want the public to turn against the actor. How he leads his life really is his own business and if he wants to have lots of children, we say the more the merrier. It would just be nice if Hollywood could end the double standard and let women live as freely as men.
