Richard Gere reminds us he was George Clooney before George Clooney

Richard Gere is particularly unlucky in the love department. After just six months, he has rejoined the dating market, because he and Padma Lakshmi have split up.

Richard Gere and Carey Lowell are calling it quits

Gere and his Top Chef host beauty first met amidst his divorce from his second wife, Carey Lowell, and began dating six months ago. But whatever romance was once brewing between these two has now simmered out.

When the pair’s romance was first announced, a source revealed to Us Weekly that it was all still very new and that Lakshmi was taking things very slowly.

“It started very recently and quietly. It’s very new,” the insider told the publication. “I wouldn’t even go as far as calling them a couple. They are dating. It’s the first time Padma has dated anyone since Teddy [Forstmann, who died from brain cancer in 2011], and it’s something she’s been approaching very, very delicately.”

News of the split began to surface after Lakshmi was recently asked about her love life, to which she replied that she was currently single. According to the New York Post‘s Page Six, a source revealed that they “decided they would be better as friends” and that both have been distracted by their busy work schedules.

But Lakshmi doesn’t seem to be taking the breakup too badly, as she was recently spotted on the streets of New York City sporting a striking pair of red jeans and an equally striking smile.

Cindy Crawford spills Richard Gere divorce deets

As for Gere, he has been filming his new project, Time Out of Mind, and he explained during his appearance at the Film Society of Lincoln Center last week just how difficult his divorce from his wife of 11 years had been for him.

“What probably really helped was I was right in the middle of a divorce [from Carey Lowell], so the emotions were right on the surface,” the star said.

We’re sure there are already plenty of women lining up to date Gere. So, maybe he’ll have better luck in the love department next time?
