Guardians of the Galaxy is getting the TV makeover
Guardians of the Galaxy is jumping on the TV bandwagon with plans for an animated series heading to Disney in 2015.
Disney XD announced the exciting news during its panel at New York Comic Con on Friday. The animated series will, of course, center around the band of misfits Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon and Groot. The show will be part of Disney XD's "Marvel Universe" programming.
"This is a very exciting time for the Marvel Animation Studio as we get to explore the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe by developing the first-ever Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy animated series," Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television, said in a statement. "After starring in the biggest movie of 2014, everyone wants more of Star-Lord and his crew — now they'll get it."
Not only did Disney XD and Marvel make the announcement, they also debuted a clip of the show. The minute-long footage shows Rocket and Peter comparing the size of their blasters, all while escaping from perilous danger, of course. Check out the first clip of the series below.
"The movie and franchise quickly became a worldwide phenomenon," Disney XD general manager Marc Buhaj said, according to E! Online. "We're looking forward to working with the great team at Marvel Television to deliver an engaging animated series that fans can enjoy each week."
Of course, Marvel isn't done bringing you summer box office sensations, either. Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana and Bradley Cooper are all set to return and reprise their roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, which is scheduled to hit theaters July 2017 in all its intergalactic glory.
