You'll never guess what Michelle Obama wears 'with pride'
Michelle Obama is known for looking absolutely stunning in high-fashion gowns at White House events and now we know why.
The first lady hosted a White House fashion event, inviting some of her favorite designers responsible for her own looks, as well as some of fashion's biggest names: Carolina Herrera, Diane von Fürstenberg, Zac Posen, Anna Wintour, Naomi Campbell and more.
And early in the event, she spilled a little secret about what makes her look so great in all those designer dresses.
"[Sarah Blakely's] idea, Spanx, is a multibillion-dollar company with products selling in more than 50 countries," she said. "And we all wear them with pride."
That's right. The first lady of the United States rocks her Spanx as hard as we all do.
At a cocktail party following fashion workshops all over the White House, People reports Mrs. Obama hosted the event, which offered tutorials to high school and college students, as part of her mission to "raise up that next generation."
"Yes, I want great clothes. Yes, I love great jewelry and great shoes," the first lady told the dozens of designers who gathered for the soiree. "But more than anything else I want to make my time here mean something, as I know you all do, too. And this means nothing if we don't change the lives of those who follow."
The event was cohosted by the first lady's personal assistant and stylist, Meredith Koop, whom Mrs. Obama said was "a truly gifted young woman who is like my sister," and involved fashion's biggest names mingling over hors d'oeuvres, Champagne and platters of charcuterie and cheese — a nice change from most fashion events, according to the participants.
As Zac Posen, a designer known for supplying supermodel, Naomi Campbell, with many of her looks, put it, "It's nice to see people actually eating at a fashion event."
