QUIZ: How well do you know your classic novels?
Once upon a time, we were force-fed the classics. Whether it was in high school or college or from the hands of a well-intentioned parent, we've all read books like The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird and Fahrenheit 451.
They're called "classics" for a reason. Books stand the test of time because they carry timeless messages that were important then and are important now. What's that saying? If we don't know history, we're doomed to repeat it. Well, great literature works the same way.
Of course, as adults, we're inundated with non-classics like Fifty Shades, books about vampires and celebrity memoirs. We read trash and forget the good stuff. Don't believe me? I challenge you to take our quiz to find out how well you know your classics.
The Amazon Kindle team researched the most highlighted passages from famous books and we put together a quiz. Match the famous quote to the famous book. Sounds simple, right? Not as simple as you think.
This isn't a test for early onset dementia, but it is a test of the effect great books have had on your life. Maybe some of these quotes will even inspire you to revisit the classics with a mature, been-there-done-that view of the world.
By the end of this quiz, you will be surprised at how little you remember. Guess that means you'll have to put down the erotica (drat!) and pick up some Harper Lee, Ray Bradbury or (my personal favorite) Kurt Vonnegut.
Let's face it: E L James may have changed the way we look at sex, but she didn't change the world. The books in this quiz are world-changers. Shake off that dusty brain and dig in. You might just learn something.
