Miss America so nasty even her own sorority didn't want her
Miss America is supposed to be the embodiment of grace, class and elegance. However, it looks like newly-crowned Miss America, Kira Kazantsev, has a black mark on her college career.
According to Jezebel.com, the titleholder was kicked out of the Alpha Phi sorority at Hofstra University for hazing pledges. She was the head of recruitment for the sorority, so much of the planned pledge activities were under her guidance.
Kazantsev did not hide her sorority involvement in her biography while at the pageant. Her bio stated that the former Miss New York was the "Alpha Phi Sorority New Member Educator and Recruitment Committee President."
After her big win, though, neither the national Alpha Phi organization nor the Hofstra University chapter touted the success of a former member. A source told the women's site that Kazantsev and a fellow Alpha Phi sister were accused of making the pledges' lives "a living hell."
The two women reportedly called the recruits names, pointed out their physical imperfections and had them perform taxing duties to the point of exhaustion. Kazantsev and her sorority sister were reported to the university for "dirty pledging."
The college did an investigation and expelled the duo from the chapter in late 2013. While the campus officials are not allowed to confirm disciplinary cases, Jezebel was able to get the story corroborated by several Hofstra students who were on campus with Kazantsev at the time.
As for the Miss America Organization, they sent out a statement determined to squash the issue as quickly as possible.
They wrote, "Kira has been fully transparent with the Miss America Organization about her termination from the Alpha Phi sorority. It's unfortunate that this incident has been exploited to create a storyline that distracts from what we should be focusing on: Kira's impressive academic achievements at Hofstra University, including earning a triple major from the Honors College and her commitment to serving her community. Kira is an exceptional ambassador for the Miss America Organization, and we are excited to be a part of her journey as a force for good across our nation, promoting education and service and working to empower young women."
Kazantsev has made no public statement regarding the allegations.
