Just when you thought “Let It Go” from Disney’s Frozen is so overplayed that if you have to hear it again, you’ll smash in some speakers, Ellen DeGeneres and Kristen Wiig blissfully bring it back with their fumbling and fantastic performance of the tune.
During The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday, DeGeneres and Wiig both admitted they didn’t know the words to the song at all. But that didn’t stop the comedians from picking up their mics karaoke-style and tackling the tune in a version that is so bad, it’s perfectly hilarious.
The song, which was originally belted out by vocal powerhouse, Idina Menzel, is hugely popular among children, in particular.
The ladies even came up with some spur-of-the-moment coordinated moves to go with their dramatic performance.
During the musical interlude, DeGeneres and Wiig crept along the stage as though they were fleeing or hiding. We couldn’t tell which and it doesn’t really matter because their expressions of uncertainty were priceless and garnered the biggest laugh from the audience.
“Kids don’t know what fractals are,” Wiig cut off mid-song to interject, referring to the line in the song which goes, “My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around.”
The ladies ended with their big finale standing on DeGeneres’ center cushion. Wiig tactfully holds her dress down in the middle as she steps up, barely managing to hold on to the lyrics of the song. We’re happy she did step up there, though, because it gave us a nice look at her gorgeous heels. We couldn’t help but notice!
We were skeptical initially that both Wiig and DeGeneres hadn’t had the song drilled into their heads over the past few months like the rest of us but, after their performance, we’re believers.
Did we mention how happy we are The Ellen DeGeneres Show is back? She’s like the daytime version of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon so far on her new season and we’re absolutely loving it!
