The news that Caroline Wozniacki and her fiancé, Rory McIlroy, had called off their engagement earlier this year came as quite a surprise; however, the way that McIlroy decided to end his relationship is even more surprising!
Things in the life of the pro tennis player seem to be looking up and she just took second place in the U.S Open last week, but after four months, Wozniacki is finally opening up about her breakup.
During an interview on In Depth with Graham Bensinger, the tennis player revealed that she was ditched over the phone.
“I was shocked. I thought at least it would be face to face or something, but there was nothing. It was a phone call and I didn’t hear from him again,” she said, via the Independent.
“It kind of just ended and I don’t think you expect yourself to be in a situation like that. You can’t prepare yourself. I think I was in just a bit of a shock phase for a while,” she added.
“The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realize that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails,” McIllroy had said in a statement in May, when he called off his engagement.
However, you can’t keep a good woman down and Wozniacki revealed that she is already feeling better, especially since she took a little trip to Miami, Florida, with her good pal, Serena Williams.
“I felt refreshed and I felt a new self,” she explained to Bensinger.
“You know what? It kind of just ended and I don’t think you expect yourself to be in a situation like that. It’s taught me a lot. I definitely learned a lot about myself, about relationships.
“I’m definitely on the other side now… I’ve moved on,” she confessed. We’re glad to hear it and we’re sure that there are suitors lining up around the block!
