RHOA's Apollo Nida heads to the slammer for eight years
This will not be a day for either Apollo Nida or his estranged wife, Phaedra Parks, to remember. The Real Housewives of Atlanta husband headed to jail today to serve out an eight-year sentence.
The reality star was convicted of cashing stolen checks and laundering a substantial amount of money — over $2 million. Besides the jail sentence, things are not so rosy in the Nida-Parks household.
According to TMZ, Parks is accusing her husband of abandoning her and their two kids. They share sons Ayden and Dylan together.
Instead of taking care of his responsibilities before his jail sentence, he allegedly spent more time in strip clubs and drinking his troubles away. Parks feared for her safety after things got tense between them and they reportedly did not speak before he went to prison.
Steve Honig, a rep for the Bravo star, told Us Weekly, "Phaedra is now putting all of her energy into ensuring the well-being of her two children and making decisions that are in their best interests. This situation has put a tremendous strain on Phaedra and her family, and she is working hard to bring back a sense of normalcy to everyone's lives."
As for Nida, he doesn't seem to have a lot of hope that his marriage will last. He told Atlanta's B100 radio station in July, "I doubt it. I mean, my wife didn't even f***ing show up for my sentencing. I'm still salty about that."
The couple was married in 2009 and Nida's previous legal troubles were no secret to Parks. She knew that her husband had served six years in prison for auto loan fraud. That story came out when she joined the reality show in Season 3.
Season 7 of RHOA will premiere sometime in 2015.
