Many woman wish that Charlie Hunnam was playing the role of Christian Grey in the highly anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey film. However, we understand why the English actor almost had a nervous breakdown about joining the cast.

Charlie Hunnam still regrets quitting Fifty Shades of Grey >>

Hunnam may be filled with regret for turning down the role, but he also recently revealed to Moviefone that he was on the verge of a having a nervous breakdown because of it. And while he claims that exiting the film was because he was exhausted from his busy work schedule, we think the real reason was because he was terrified of the film, and for good reasons.

1. Filming crazy S&M scenes can be awkward

Fifty Shades of Grey is about a whirlwind romance jam-packed with seduction and sexual adventures, and taking on the role of Christian Grey means that you have to be a man who is completely comfortable with nudity, dirty talk and doing a lot of crazy S&M scenes. Um, awkward much?

2. Fifty Shades is going to be massive

"I just said, 'I can't … I can't …' To fail on such a grand scale — because Fifty's going to be massive, it's going to be huge," Hunnam said during his interview with Moviefone.

And it's not just one film that Hunnam would have been getting into: FSOG is going to be a trilogy and playing the role of a sadomasochistic, billionaire lover once would have been stressful enough. Also, think of all the press attention that will come with this film. Hunnam would have to kiss away any hope of living a normal life.

3. Sorry, but Christian Grey is no Jax Teller

Who doesn't love Hunnam as the hardcore, flannel-wearing biker dude, Jax Teller, from Sons of Anarchy? And while we are convinced that Hunnam has the ability and the diversity to play just about any role, we think he'd look a little out of place dressed up in a tailored suit and playing the role of an enigmatic billionaire CEO.

In fact, Hunnam tends to agree, as he recently told Moviefone, "I really didn't want to fail on such a grand scale and I just couldn't transition from Jax Teller to Christian Grey in 48 hours."

4. He'd be the man who is responsible for lady boners everywhere

In addition to filming crazy S&M scenes, Hunnam would also be the face that women across the globe would associate with their lady boners. Maybe he just really didn't want to be associated with mommy porn?

5. He'd have to manhandle Dakota Johnson

Sure, some people may like it a little rough sometimes, but this movie takes things to a whole new level. Dakota Johnson stars as protagonist Anastasia Steele, who just so happens to be an innocent college student who falls in love with an older man who has his wicked way with her. Grey is domineering and the role demands rough sex and a BDSM relationship.

Um, I think I'd also be reaching for the Xanax.
