Were you wondering why Liza Minnelli was a no-show at Joan Rivers’ funeral? Well, that’s because the Tony Award-winning star has broken her back following a freak accident with her dogs.
Minnelli was at home when one of her dogs jumped up on her excitedly and caused her to fall in an awkward position on the ground, and an X-ray has shockingly revealed she has broken her spine, Page Six reports.

Thus, Minnelli has been bedridden ever since and was even forced to skip out on her good pal Joan Rivers’ funeral on Sunday.
“I couldn’t go to Joan Rivers’ funeral, which I desperately wanted to because I loved her — but I couldn’t go because I can’t walk. I’m in bed. Going in for surgery,” she told the publication.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time the Cabaret star has injured her spine. She also had an operation on it a few years back.

“I broke my lower back. Remember a few years ago I was in a wheelchair because I had trouble with my spine? They operated on it then. Well, now, again. They’ll have to fuse it.”
The star went on to describe how the painful incident had happened, saying, “I was picking up my dogs — and they jumped. And I got twisted and fell. I thought it’s nothing. But it wasn’t nothing. It became something. After an X-ray, seems I busted it and have to have it fused. The operation’s next week.”

We hope Minnelli makes a speedy recovery. Just last October, she was left with a broken wrist and even went on to perform at a benefit concert for the Women’s Health Initiative and the Dr. Philomena McAndrew Fund of Tower Cancer Research Foundation, while in excruciating pain!
