Fran Drescher marries guy who lied about inventing email
Fran Drescher may star in the TV series Happily Divorced, but in real life she is happily married.
Or is she? The actress married Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai at their beachfront home Sunday afternoon, People reports. And while Drescher is no doubt thrilled with the man she is going to call her husband, some reports suggest that she messed up big-time.
What? Ayyadurai is widely credited as the inventor of email, but according to Gawker, that's a lie. The publication reports that back in 2012, a Gizmodo blogger published a story of Ayyadurai which basically calls him a renowned liar and a fake.
The Gizmodo story "Corruption, Lies, and Death Threats: The Crazy Story of the Man Who Pretended to Invent Email" goes on to say that, "There's precious little evidence that Ayyadurai came remotely close to inventing email, beyond a few misleading childhood documents and a U.S. copyright form of dubious weight."
It's allegedly been pointed out that electronic messaging existed before Ayyadurai's work in 1978. So, it's not so much email itself that the Bombay-born innovator invented, but rather that he holds the copyright to something called "email."
According to the U.S. Copyright Office, Ayyadurai has a computer program called "email," establishing him as the creator of the "computer program for [an] electronic mail system" by that name.
So, has Drescher messed up by marrying this man that she met just over a year ago? Is she now doomed to be with a man who is allegedly a fake?
Well, that's for Drescher to decide. However, what we do know is that she stunned on her wedding day in a gown by Badgley Mischka while the groom wore Ralph Lauren.
And despite what's being said about her husband, Drescher is clearly smitten with the man, taking to Twitter on Sunday to let the world know about her wedding.
