Katie Couric's mother Elinor has died at 91
Former Today Show host Katie Couric revealed on Thursday that her mother Elinor Hene Couric has died at the age of 91.
Couric took to social media to share the news of her mom's death and pay tribute to the woman she described as her mom and her best friend.
The TV presenter, who married financier John Molner in June, posted an emotional message along with a black-and-white photo that showed her mother smiling.
The Katie talk show host has previously spoken out about her mother and how close she was to her during an interview with Woman's Day in 2012. Couric discussed how she cared for her elderly mother after she became widowed.
"My mother's day-to-day care took on a new urgency after my father passed away last year," she said. "Mom is living alone, in the same house in Virginia where we grew up… it's full of 55 years' worth of memories, and the thought of leaving it and the life she shared with my dad is understandably overwhelming."
At the time, she was unsure whether to put her mother in a nursing home, saying there were "no easy answers."
"Mom sacrificed for us her whole life, and we want to help her age with dignity, as gracefully as possible," Couric said.
Couric also paid her respects to the late comedian Joan Rivers and her family following the death of the star on Thursday. "So sorry to hear the news about Joan Rivers. She was one of a kind. My heart goes out to Melissa and Cooper," she wrote.
Our thoughts are with Couric and her family during this sad time.
