Mexican actor Gael García Bernal and his wife split
Gael García Bernal — the gorgeous actor who has starred in films such as A Little Bit of Heaven, Letters to Juliet and Y Tu Mamá También — and his wife Dolores Fonzi have decided to part ways.
The couple, who have been married for nearly five years, first met on the set of the 2001 film Vidas Privadas, though they reportedly didn't start a romantic relationship until 2008.
The former couple also share two children, a son Lazaro, 5, and a daughter Libertad, 3.
A source revealed to E! News on Tuesday that Bernal has been telling people that he and his Argentine-born wife have split up. He went on to say he has been spending time in both his native Mexico and his wife's home country of Argentina, where she lives with their two children.
Apparently, the split was also confirmed last week by the actor's mother, Patricia Bernal, who broke the news to People en Español. While the Latin Post reports that Bernal has been traveling a lot, which is said to have driven a wedge between the couple, his wife is also an actress with a busy schedule, so she is unable to travel with him.
The The Science of Sleep actor, who famously dated Natalie Portman at the beginning of 2006, may be heartbroken now, but he was just at the International Film Festival and will be distracted by his new projects, one of which is his latest film, Rosewater, which also marks Jon Stewart's feature directorial debut.
Bernal will star as the lead character in the based-on-a-true-story film centered on a journalist named Maziar Bahari, who is detained in Iran and interrogated in prison.
