Joan Rivers is currently “resting comfortably” in a New York City hospital after the comedian suffered complications from a routine throat procedure at a local clinic.
This is the latest update on Rivers, 81, which was given by her daughter Melissa Rivers this Thursday evening, E! News revealed. The Fashion Police host is at New York City’s Mount Sinai Hospital with her daughter and other family members by her side.
Fans all over are waiting on news from the ailing funny lady, hoping to see her condition updated. So far, she was upgraded to stable condition from critical condition a few hours after she was admitted to the hospital on Thursday.
Rivers was undergoing a procedure on her vocal cords when she stopped breathing in the middle of the endoscopic operation. She was then rushed to Mount Sinai after a clinic worker told 911 that they had “somebody in either cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest.” At one point, the comic’s heart even stopped beating during the scary ordeal, TMZ reported.
Doctors were able to place her in a medically induced coma, which is where she remains for the time being. Her daughter also released a statement thanking everyone for their thoughts and well-wishes.
“I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother,” Melissa said in a statement. “She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.”
Just the night before Rivers went in to have her throat procedure, she was out with friends where everyone said how good and vivacious she appeared.
“She was lively and sweet,” a witness told E! News. “She even let people take photos with her. She definitely had a lot of energy! She was cracking jokes about everyone from Jay Leno to Jackie O. She was as sharp as she’s ever been.”
