Young Jeezy arrested in Wiz Khalifa concert shooting
Young Jeezy was arrested on weapons charges in connection with a fatal Bay Area shooting during a Wiz Khalifa concert last Friday night.
The rapper was taken by police along with five other people following a search of his tour bus Saturday night at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, California, NBC reported. Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Jenkins, was arrested with fellow tour bus members Kena Marshall, Peter Maynard, David Kuniansky-Altman, William Gilmore and Alexa Beason.
The arrests came after Eric Johnson was shot at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View at around 11:00 p.m. on Friday. Johnson was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival after being hit several times.
The actual shooter has not been identified or arrested yet, and Mountain View police are requesting assistance from any witnesses who may have crucial information regarding the fatal incident.
A stagehand who worked the concert on the night of the shooting told NBC that security isn't always reliable at these concerts and it's easy for people to sneak in.
"I would say more often than not, no one is back there to make sure the correct people are back there," the man said. "They can walk through that back gate undeterred."
The man, who did not want to be identified, added that if people have a guest, VIP, or working crew pass they are free to go backstage without any further checks.
Young Jeezy was on tour with Wiz Khalifa as part of their Under the Influence of Music tour. Reps for Jenkins have yet to comment on the issue.
