Is Beyoncé trying to shoot down split rumors with this new trailer?

As if we weren’t already waiting with some seriously bated breath for the televised version of Beyoncé and Jay Z’s On The Run tour to premiere, the wait just got worse. Over the weekend, HBO released a 50-second trailer for the power couple’s concert special set to air Sept. 20. And boy, is that ever a trailer.

You’d have to be living under a pop culture rock to not have heard the rumors about Beyoncé and Jay Z’s purported marital discord, divorce dabblings and all sorts of nasty rumblings. Like the — ahem — pair or not, they dominate the media, and as of late, their drama does more so. Headlines à la “Jay and Bey are over,” “Separate beds for the Carters,” and ones of the like have threatened fans of the demise of America’s favorite dynamic duo. So, given all these rumors as of late, it has not been overly clear whether the much-anticipated HBO On The Run Tour concert event would actually ever grace the small screen — not clear until last night, that is.

Beyoncé serenades Jay Z in first HBO trailer >>

In the just-under-a-minute trailer released by HBO Saturday evening, Queen Bey herself serenades her husband with a sultry cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “Bang Bang.” The song was also covered by another one-named-diva, Cher, in the ’70s, but the clips of Beyoncé’s cover are infinitely more similar to Ms. Sinatra’s. Beyoncé appears as the fire to her royal husband’s cigar flame — we can practically smell the sex coming through the screen. Close-ups of Mrs. Carter’s face while she sings to her man seem to also scream sex and lust. If that isn’t a blatant look-at-us-we-are-fine effort to shoot down divorce rumors, we don’t know what is.

Seems like the split rumor mill might have to stop churning for the moment, at least until Sept. 21. Regardless of what may or may not be going on behind closed Carter doors, we cannot wait (literally) for what is guaranteed to be a life-changing musical moment. The DVR is already set.
