Céline Dion postpones shows due to husband's cancer
For Céline Dion, family comes first. The Canadian star has decided to postpone her Las Vegas residency and cancel her Asia tour as well as all her other work-related activities to focus on her husband and his ongoing health issues.
It has been a tough few months for the "Because You Loved Me" singer's husband René Angélil, who just last December had a cancerous tumor removed from his throat, and Dion has revealed that she's devoting all of her energy to her husband during this very difficult and stressful time.
"I want to devote every ounce of my strength and energy to my husband's healing, and to do so, it's important for me to dedicate this time to him and to our children," Dion told People magazine in a statement. "I also want to apologize to all my fans everywhere, for inconveniencing them, and I thank them so much for their love and support."
This past June, Angélil also stepped down as his wife's manager to focus on his health. "Considering our long-standing friendship, our mutual respect, and our past collaborations, this was a logical step for all of us," he said at the time, E! News reports.
However, Dion also has been battling with health issues of her own and is suffering from an inflammation in her throat muscles from which she has not yet recovered. She has been unable to perform since July 29.
The couple share three young children together, René-Charles, 13, and fraternal twins Eddy and Nelson, 3½, and family is very important to them. Our thoughts are with the singer and her family during this difficult time, and we hope the media will give them the privacy and respect they have asked for.
