It’s a popular trend to hate on Britney Spears. She’s been in the business for years, but even during the good ol’ days as a teen pop starlet, she’d always been on the receiving end of a lot of flak from some musical peers, comedians and overall detractors. However, Spears has always remained mum on starting feuds with her naysayers even when they hit her very low.
Zoe Saldana, who appeared with Spears in the singer’s Hollywood debut Crossroads, took to Watch What Happens Live to promote her new film Guardians of the Galaxy and had some words for the singer’s haters.
“She was the only pop star at the time, and I can name a lot of prominent figures right now that are today more famous than Britney that literally got to where they were at by hating on Britney,” Saldana told viewers. “Because it was cool at one time to just dis her, and Britney never did that.”
After admitting that she has “a huge amount of respect” for the pop icon, Saldana confesses that Spears never treated her any differently when she was coming into the business. “I’ve always said this, and I will always continue to say it: She was the one big, big celebrity that I met when I was starting to work in Hollywood who literally was humble, and whatever was going on in her mind there in her world, it was never about hating her neighbor.
“I do believe that people and children gravitate to good energy, and she’s definitely an abundance of that,” she added.
As for Spears’ recent Auto-Tune controversy, she deemed the leak a mean move. “I’m pretty sure that 80 percent of our musical artists would be mortified if they were caught singing without their own Auto-Tune.”
